Ag Overview
Based on the 2016 Census, there are 235 farms in the District, predominantly in beef production. Hay is the predominant field crop but fair to moderately high soil productivity can support a number of field crops and there has been a large increase in recent years in corn & soybean acreage. The District is home to the Rainy River District Regional Abbatoir and the Emo Agricultural Research Station, which has approximately 1,300 plots in crops, forages and horticulture. The EARS is operated by the University of Guelph, alongside the New Liskeard Agricultural Research Station.
