Description

The 2021 farm cash receipts for the district totaled $16.2 million, with $3.4 million in dairy, supported by over 20,000 acres in hay. 2021 yields averaged 1.2 tons/acre of hay, 55 bushels/acre of canola, 36.8 bushels/acre of soybeans and 122 bushels/acre of oats.

Ag Overview

Based on the 2021 Census, the district is home to 195 farms. Barley & forages are typically grown but canola, soybeans and corn are becoming more prevalent. A cooperative grain elevator is located in Verner. Agronomy research tests sites are also located in Verner, managed by the University of Guelph through the Ontario Crops Research Centre - New Liskeard.
